After putting up with builders hanging around my house, generally messing the place up, taking too long and scratching their arses a lot for about 5 months our house extension is just about done.

It's nothing too grand, a single storey one room extension into the garden so we have somewhere to keep the mountains of kids toys we have accumulated over the last 6 years.

There has been a bit of talk about craft wine in the wine press in the last week or so. Both Jancis Robinson and Victoria Moore wrote last week about how the wine industry can perhaps get some marketing tips from the craft beer boom.

This was largely driven by the release last week of Aldi's "craft wine" range. These are four wines made to look like craft beers. Beer bottles, beer caps and craft beer style labels.

The only problem is the price. Aldi has priced a 500ml bottle at £2....

My name is Simon Reilly. I am a wine writer based in South East London. I am passionate about discovering new and exciting wines which offer value for money. I write about the wines I taste and other related wine stuff that I think is interesting, brilliant or annoying.

I also came second in the Born Digital Wine Awards 2017 in the "Best Investigative/Journalistic Wine Story" category.


One of these days I might win one, but as an Aberdeen FC fan, these days I am happy enough with second place. Stand Free.
